Approaches To Portsmouth - Submerged Barrier

 

  1. One of a series of unlit yellow piles marking the Submerged Barrier has toppled in position 50 45.75N 001 04.09W. As a result the pile is no longer visible at any stage of the tide therefore mariners are to proceed with extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity

LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS

No 2/09

Underwater Sediment Sampling In Portsmouth Harbour
And
The Solent 26 - 27 January 2009

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that on 26th January 2009 underwater sediment sampling will be carried out within Portsmouth Harbour and its Approaches and the Central Solent. A spare day of 27th January will be utilised if required.
  2. The vessel conducting this task will be the “VOE 3”.
  3. Operations will commence inside Portsmouth Harbour and include the Naval Base Berths, the Continental Ferry Port, Haslar Creek and Fareham Lake as far north as V and W Trots. The area of the Central Solent affected will be between SE Ryde Middle Buoy in the west to Horse Sand Fort in the east.
  4. QHM Harbour Control will be kept informed of the vessel’s daily area of operations and may be contacted on VHF Ch 11 or by telephoning 023 92 723689 for the latest information. Her movements will be de-conflicted from other movements by Harbour Control in the usual way.

QHM's Harbour Patrol (QHP) enhances the safe transit of small leisure craft transiting the Dockyard Port of Portsmouth (DPP) the majority of the time they can be found patrolling the Small Boat Channel (SBC) at the Harbour Entrance.

The SBC extends from the Ballast Pile to Number 4 Bar Buoy. Any vessel under 20m in length must use the SBC, unless given permission from the QHM, the QHP will ensure that the SBP is utilised and that the main part of the harbour entrance remains clear for the transit of the larger Continental Ferries, IOW Ferries and of course the Royal Navy.
